Aesthetics for Men

More men are conscious of their  appearance…

Men currently represent 15-30% of  wrinkle reducing injection users, and about 10% of Dermal Filler users, but their legions are growing, researchers say. Wrinkle reducing injections are already the most popular non-surgical procedure amongst men in the USA and Britain. According to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2007 4.6 million procedures were performed, of which about 300,000 were on men. In Britain 20% of all wrinkle reducing injection users are men and in the past 12 months, there’s been a 50% increase in male patients signing up for the treatment.

Men are just as interested in appearing youthful despite the prevailing notion that men with wrinkles are sometimes considered more masculine and distinguished.

Some of the stereotypes we have had about male attitudes towards cosmetic procedures are not borne out by evidence.

My male clients increasingly ask for solutions to appear more youthful, but interestingly, it is the requests to appear less aggressive or angry that are the most compelling. Many men have very strong faces with heavy expressions that leave them appearing less approachable and relaxed than their internal environments suggest.

Wrinkle Reducing Injections for Men

Wrinkle reducing injections are certainly not just for women. If you are a man and think it’s time to do something about those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows, talk to Dr Mel about whether wrinkle reducing injections are right for you.

Wrinkle reducing injections and Dermal Fillers have proven to be the best way to make you look younger, calmer and look natural, unlike complicated, expensive and permanent plastic surgery. They can often achieve what even surgery cannot. This is important, especially in today’s high-octane business world, where the face you put forward says as much about you as what’s coming out of your mouth.

An investment in your future…

The Corporate World is a highly competitive and demanding environment to be in. Job pressures, competition and employment insecurity are stark realities faced by all employees. Clients, customers and managers are increasingly demanding and discerning. Superior first impressions and fine personal presentation are beneficial factors that have the power to tip the scales when all else is in balance…

Consultant plastic surgeon Simon Withey from the London Plastic Surgery Associates says: “The pressure to not look past one’s sell-by-date is intense. Men want a strong image and this is a subtle way of getting rid of that exhausted or angry look. I treat plenty of City types who want to look younger because they feel the pressure of hordes of younger people behind them ready to take their place.”

The most commonly treated area in men is the frown lines between the eyes. If these lines are deep, they can cause a person to look angry even when their expression is neutral. Removing these lines can give a person a more ‘approachable’ appearance, which can be a career advantage for many men whether they are a salesman who needs to appear friendly or an attorney who needs to make a good impression in the court room.

The wrinkle reducing injections involve a serious of small injections in the areas of concern. Minute amounts of Onabotulinumtoxin-A are placed in the target muscles.  Over the next 2 weeks, the muscle begins to relax progressively, and the relaxed affect usually persists for around 3-6 months (depending on your unique physiology). So, the treatment is generally repeated about 4 times in a year.

It is though this relaxation of the overactive muscles that the effect of softening of facial expressions comes about. The injections are quick (the treatment usually takes around 15 minutes) and almost painless.

Not so long ago wrinkles might have been thought of as masculine signs of wisdom or maturity. But that sentiment appears to be changing as Doctors around the world report a steady stream of men signing up for wrinkle reducing injections.

Many of those male patients, including Joe, appear to be pleased with the results. Click on News TIME Magazine report to read further

With regular treatments, Joe said his forehead is in the clear. Gone are the days when colleagues would ask if he had gotten enough sleep the night before. Now they say he looks younger than he did in an office party photo taken 5 years ago.

In the quest for sustained youth, men are finally catching up with women. The modern male has now discovered a weapon that females have had in their armoury for more than a decade: The wrinkle reducing injectection!

What motivates you?

The motivation behind seeking wrinkle reducing injection treatment varies between individuals. Some men seek wrinkle reducing injection treatment in the belief it will boost their chances on the singles scene, and experience a confidence boost as a result of the procedure. Many are encouraged by their wives or partners who already enjoy the benefits the treatments can bring. The growing acceptance among men has also been fuelled by celebrities.

But for many men, wrinkle reducing injection is seen as a career investment…

Are wrinkle reducing injections for men different than for women?

Men sometimes require a much higher dose of wrinkle reducing injections than women to reduce frown lines because of their stronger and more bulky musculature and thicker skin. This is particularly true if the frontal portion is being treated. What specific facial areas are targeted is another difference. Men are more likely to complain of angry brows and horizontal forehead lines; women are often more concerned about vertical lines that start between their eyes. (Crow’s feet, alas, do not discriminate.) Dr Mel will exercise caution when injecting wrinkle reducing injections into all areas to ensure natural facial expressions and masculinity are maintained.

Other differences are societal. Men are more likely to wait longer to come back for treatment. Men tolerate the return of wrinkles better. They’re not as bothered as quickly. Women sit in front of a mirror putting on makeup every day and are acutely aware of changes.

Men can also benefit from the medical applications of wrinkle reducing injections. Other medical applications of wrinkle reducing injections, common to both men and women, are the treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), migraines, debilitating muscle spasms and certain eye disorders.
