What must I do before & After my Hair Removal Treatment?

INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE HAIR REMOVAL
  • DO NOT wax or thread before laser hair removal. This removes the hair root and the laser then has no target to reach. Rather please SHAVE the area about 2-3 days before the treatment.
  • DO NOT have excessive sun exposure before hair removal. Do not come to the treatment sunburned. This increases the risk of the laser burning you, and decreases the effectiveness of the laser.
  • DO NOT apply self tan to the area for at least 1 week before the laser hair removal. This increases the risk of a burn, and decreases effectiveness.
  • Call us if the area to be treated is infected or irritated. Your treatment may have to be postponed.
  • We cannot treat close to or over an active cold sore. Please call us to reschedule your laser if you have one close to the area to be treated.
  • Stop all harsh creams over the area for about 4 days before the treatment.
POST-TREATMENT GUIDELINES AFTER HAIR REMOVAL
  • Apply ice to the area to decrease redness and heat.
  • Avoid sun exposure. Apply sunblock to the area when exposed to sun on a daily basis.
  • Hair will continue to grow for 5-10 days after the procedure. Then a certain amount of the hairs will fall out spontaneously.
  • An oral, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication may be taken to reduce discomfort (such as myprodol, cataflam or nurofen).
Expect:
  • A mild sunburn-like sensation is expected. Mild swelling and/or redness may accompany this, but it usually resolves in 2-3 days.
  • Bath or shower as usual. Treated areas may be temperature-sensitive. This usually lasts 2-24 hours but can persist up to 72 hours.
  • Apply ice or gel packs to the treatment area for 10-15 minutes every hour for the next four hours, as needed.
Until redness has resolved, it is highly recommended to avoid the following:
  • Swimming, especially in pools with chemicals, such as chlorine. Hot tubs, Jacuzzis, and saunas.
  • Activities that causes excessive perspiration.
  • Aggressive scrubbing and use of exfoliants on the treated area.
Possible Side Effects:
  • A low risk of prolonged itching, redness and blistering, bruising, peeling, rash, lightening or darkening on the skin color, ingrown hair, removal of freckles, crusting swelling and infection, scarring.
