EARLOBE TREATMENT OPTIONS
Earlobes are an often ignored area, but there are some people that are bothered by their signs of ageing, and wear and tear.
Earlobes, like many soft areas of the face, tend to shrink and lose volume with age. This leaves the little sacs looking long and skinny. Since they are also soft tissue pouches that are usually pierced, and adorned with jewellery, there are changes associated with this as well. Wearing heavy earrings for many years often leaves the piercing hole stretched and unsightly. And earrings then sit poorly, often facing the floor or hanging limply.
There are limited options for earlobe rejuvenation. The most invasive, but often necessary is surgical correction of the earlobe.
This involves a relatively minor procedure in which the lobes are nipped and tucked to decrease their size and neaten up the size of the stretched piercing hole. For very stretched or ripped holes and very lengthened lobes, this is the only real option for a meaningful improvement. The downside is the unavoidable scars that will always be present.
From a non-surgical perspective, dermal fillers are an option which may be of value in certain circumstances. The fillers are placed in the shrunken lobes, which then plump out pleasantly. The end result is a better bed for earrings to sit on. Even though the holes are not in reality treated, by volumising the lobes, the holes appear less stretched, and earring position can be noticeably improved.
The downside of fillers is that the lobes are “filled” and can look quite plump. The treatment is not painful, and takes about 15 minutes to perform. The result of this filling usually lasts 1-3 years.
Lastly, for those pesky concertina lines that are found in front of the ear on the side of the cheek, skin tightening Plexr can be of value to tighten away those lines for a smoother look in front of the ear area. So, not really an earlobe treatment, but a “near-ear” treatment.
